How do I use HYLO eye drops?

Hylo eye drops use an airless pump design that requires a few pumps at the beginning to prime the bottle to be ready to use. You can apply the drops to the eye from sitting upright to lying on your back. For better control and accuracy, pull down your eyelid with one hand and make a base with one hand to support the hand holding the bottle. Press firmly on the bottle and release. The bottle will dispense the exactly amount every time. Check out how to use page from the manufacturer here. 

 

How do I use CALMO eye spray?

Calmo eye spray is used only on closed eyes. Remove the cap. Hold bottle at the a distance of approx. 10cm. Look for the aiming black dot, close eyes, and spray 1-2x on the eyelids. A single spray will last approx. 4 hours but more sprays may be used if you have dry eyes. Can be applied with or without makeup, but we recommend applying without makeup or after makeup removal. The scent is not perfume but the smell of the liposome ingredient in the spray. These help protect the eyes from dry eyes. For greater dry eye relief, Calmo eye spray can be combined with Hylo, Hylo Gel and Hylo Dual products. A video tutorial can be watched here. 

 

Why are there a few drops left in the bottle?

Most preservative free dropper bottles are created to have dual chamber to prevent back flow into the main chamber. This prevents contamination. Usually a few last drop (s) remain in the outer chamber due to the design of the bottle. Manufactures account for this and ensure there is more in the bottle than designated. The last few drops are meant to stay in the bottle and thrown away. 

 

How do I know when the bottle is done?

For multi-dose bottles, it typically gets harder to squeeze drops at the end since more force is needed to push the remain drops out from the design of the bottle. If the last drop flows backwards in and its too hard to squeeze out, it is likely done. You can try to flick the last drop out by tapping or bottle while squeezing. 

 

How long does a 10mL bottle last?

A 10mL bottle typically lasts ~3 months if using 2 drops a day for both eyes, ~1.5-2 months if 3 drops a day in both eyes, and 1 month if using 4 drops a day in both eyes.  Sometimes it's normal it might run out faster as some would apply more drops if they missed the eye. Depending on the bottle dispenser type, there are approx. 300 drops in the bottle. Some droppers will dispense a larger or smaller drop due to the viscosity, concentration, and mechanism of the dispenser. 

 

Why is the bottle not clear? 

Typically, the bottle is opaque (not clear) to protect the drops from UV exposure. For some bottles, the blue tip at the top is antibacterial and prevents backflow. This allows the bottle to last longer from opening. Avoid touching the tip of the bottle to your eye and skin to keep the bottle clean. 

 

Should I keep the bottle away from sunlight?

Bottles should not be in direct sunlight. The bottle is designed to protect itself from UV exposure and contamination. It is best to store in a cool dark area in room temperature. For cooler sensation upon application, the bottles can be stored in the fridge (not freezer). 

 

Where do your products come from?

The products are shipped directly from the manufacturer whom are licensed in Canada and Health Canada approved. All products are sealed by the manufacturer with the original packaging. Do you have a physical store front for pick-up?

Unfortunately, we do not offer this option at this time, but hope to do so in the future! Stay tuned. We're working hard. 

 

Are your products safe with prosthetic eyes? 

Generally speaking, most, if not all, ocular prosthetics today are made out of medical-grade plastic (some glass) and any of our preservative-free eye drops, ointments and spray can be used safely with an ocular prosthetic. Dry eye is very common with eyes with a prosthetic eye. The Calmo eye spray is meant to be used on closed eyes which distributes on blink and coats the eyelids for dry eye relief by adding liposomes to our tear film. We would recommend adding HYLO Gel or Evolve Intensive Gel in addition to help with daily lubrication. Ocunox or I-Defence Ointment are great for night lubrication or extreme dryness in the socket. As always, it is important to have your prosthetic polished yearly by an ocularist and to undergo a yearly eye exam by your eye doctor to examine your eye socket. Following your eye professional for guidelines for daily cleaning and maintenance of your prosthetic eye and eye socket is important for a healthy, happy eye.

 

Where can I find the DIN number number? 

Generally speaking, a prescription or over-the-counter (OTC) product is issued a DIN number before sold in Canada. Previously, artificial eye drops were given an OTC categorization, so they used to have a DIN number. However, like all Hyaluronate-based eye drops in Canada, they are now categorized as Medical Devices, so they do not have a DIN number but instead have a Canadian Medical Device License Number.
